Stay in a landmark for the price of a budget hotel. Hôtel Le Corbusier occupies several floors of Le Corbusier’s landmark building, Le Cité Radieuse. The building is listed for historic conservation and hasn’t changed since 1952, when it was completed. Short-term rental rooms for visitors were part of the original concept and these, with their original period décor preserved in pristine condition, constitute the hotel. The style is minimalist; the smallest rooms were based on monastic cells. Larger rooms, which can accommodate four, have the view of Marseille harbor as their only decoration and oak floors that, the hotel literature declares, “... give a lot of charm without any useless luxury.” The small number of “studio” rooms include 1952 designer kitchens (which can’t be used but are kept for their historic interest), and artist-designed staircases.
